Build the Perfect Survival Kit

by: John D. Mccann

Summary:

Build the Perfect Survival Kit is focused on how to build your own custom survival kits to fit your specific needs in a variety of situations.

Sources:

The content of this book comes from the author’s survival class teaching experience and personal knowledge.

Depth:

The author specifies that a survival kit should be able to help you build a fire, signal for help, find your way to civilization, build a shelter, take care of basic first aid and gather food and water. Kit items related to these topics get their own chapters and are covered in detail. For example, there are five pages covering all aspects of matches, from waterproofing to storage to brand recommendations. Carrying multiple items from each category is suggested for redundancy. Sample survival kits of all different sizes are also discussed and suggested contents are listed.

Overall:

If you are looking into building a survival kit, this book will save you a good bit of time researching options on the Internet. It gives you a good foundation in kit building and provides multiple suggestions so you can choose the option that makes the most sense for your personal situation.

This book is focused on survival kits, but has little information on the skills needed to best use these items. However, the author is clear that he has purposefully limited the scope of this book to the kits themselves. The end of the book includes references for both reading and training to take the next step in gaining these skills.
